faces of japan - number 1...

Travelling around Japan we were anxious to photograph rice harvesting. We took some pictures in the south but it was not until we were with Misao, near Hamamatsu, that we stumbled across a family tying up the rice for drying. Of course we stopped to take a look. The family invited us to help, which was fun. This dear lady, all of 88 years, was only too happy to pose for photographs before getting back to work...

having fun...

Oh what fun - the freedom to have fireworks all to ourselves, something we have not done for years due to a ban on them in our state!

autumn at its best...

This is a stunning spot in the mountains in Nikko, west of Tokyo. Whilst the leaves were only beginning change in most places but these - well the picture tells the story! Added to this I have never seen so much fresh water in all my life!
